Rick Buddies

We made the drive to Edmonds to participate in the Rick Steves Festival. We had so much fun. What a brilliant man he is. We took 2 FREE classes and then spent $140 in the travel shop...as did about 500 other people. He definitely got us.
Our first class was "Packing Light and Right". This whole idea of going to New York and Europe with only a carry-on bag is practically incomprehensible to me. I usually have a bag that size for my shoes. But we are going to give it a whirl.
After this class we headed straight for the store and bought a clothesline, little zip up cubes, a shopping bag( for Limenocello), a microfiber towel, travel alarm clock, electical converter, etc. This is really the fun part of the trip...planning!!!
We had a 3 hour break before the next class so we took our stuff to the car and walked around Edmonds...great little town...and ended up at a Mexican restaurant. Yes...I know...we should have gone to Italian...but what can I say...Jim is half Mexican as we all know.
Our Rick Steves Italy class was full...and it was like seeing a Rock Star or something. We have been watching his classes on tv for so long...he is famous. I couldnt believe I was in the same room with him. However, he was still his normal laid-back self. There was a crying newborn baby in the class and he nicely asked them to take the kid outside...some people cheered. It was great. I have never understood why anyone would think the rest of us wouldn't mind listening to their screaming baby...so rude. I wish he had told the women chatting behind us to shut up as well. Anyway...Italy is his favorite place and you could tell that from his lecture. We learned alot..laughed alot... and are now as excited as ever to go.
When we got to the car, Jim had to play with all the new stuff we had. Is this a shock to anyone? We practically drove off the road as he extended the new clothes line to see how far it would go.
The drive home was full of new planning ideas. Of course when we got home Jim got out the suitcases and put all our new stuff in them. Guess what...they are now FULL...and there are no clothes in them. This is making me very nervous.....
